Bitcoin Tests $82K Resistance as Institutional ETF Inflows Accelerate

Bitcoin is trading above $79,000 after US spot exchange-traded funds recorded $730.9 million in inflows during a single day last week, marking the second-largest daily inflow of the year following $843.6 million in January.

Market analysts are framing the current price action as a test of whether institutional demand can propel Bitcoin through the $82,000 resistance level. A successful break above this threshold would require confirmation through a four-hour close above $82,000 followed by a successful retest, according to analysis from CryptoRus.

Key Market Signals

Three factors are drawing attention from market observers. First, Bitcoin held near $80,000 following a stronger-than-expected US jobs report, a development some analysts interpret as institutional buyers absorbing supply before resistance breaks.

Second, $554.2 million in crypto positions were liquidated over 24 hours, with $471.4 million of that representing short position closures and $276.7 million coming from Bitcoin trades specifically. Forced short covering can accelerate rally momentum, though it does not guarantee sustained organic demand once the liquidation squeeze ends.

Third, broader market movements in alternative cryptocurrencies reflect concentrated speculative capital. Zcash climbed from roughly $40 to above $1,200 over the past year, entering crypto's top ten assets.

Current Price Levels and Trading Activity

Bitcoin has gained roughly 2 percent over the past week and about 23 percent over the past month. Daily trading volume sits near $22 billion, up approximately 13 percent from the prior session.

The immediate technical levels remain $79,000 and $82,000. A loss of $79,000 would weaken the short-term bullish case and bring the liquidity area around $78,000 back into focus. As of now, strong ETF demand persists, but the $82,000 level has not yet been cleared.
