Next Technology Holding Inc., one of the world's largest publicly traded corporate bitcoin holders, has authorized its board to sell or pledge approximately 5,833 BTC. The authorization came on October 30, 2026, following Binance's reported security incident, though none of Next Technology's bitcoin was held at the exchange.
The company ranked 18th among publicly traded corporate bitcoin holders at the time of the announcement. The board resolution grants management authority over transaction timing, pricing, and volume, but no completed sales have been disclosed.
Security Concerns Drive the Decision
Next Technology cited multiple factors in reconsidering its cryptocurrency exposure, including international hacking campaigns, exchange vulnerabilities, and emerging technological threats. The company emphasized that its response was not prompted by a direct loss but rather by concerns about the broader security landscape affecting digital asset holders.
The board noted that security failures at other institutions can influence market prices, institutional confidence, and liquidity—risks that extend beyond the security of individual holdings.
Broader Threats to Digital Assets
The company highlighted AI-assisted fraud as an immediate concern. According to TRM Labs, the use of large language models in scams increased fivefold in 2025, with attackers increasingly targeting employees, devices, and operational controls rather than attempting to breach blockchain cryptography directly.
Quantum computing represents a longer-term consideration. While no existing quantum computer can break Bitcoin's signature cryptography, researchers are investigating how future machines might derive private keys from exposed public keys. This remains a prospective risk rather than an active threat to Bitcoin.
Multiple Options Available
The authorization gives management flexibility in how to proceed. Pledging bitcoin for financing would provide liquidity without necessarily disposing of holdings, though collateral arrangements carry their own financial risks. Outright sales would reduce direct exposure to bitcoin price movements.
Next Technology cautioned that there is no guarantee regarding the timing, size, or completion of any transaction. The company has approved the authorization but made no commitment to execute any sales.
