Perpetual futures linked to the Bitcoin Volmex Implied Volatility Index (BVIV) launched on Hyperliquid on Monday, giving traders a new way to express views on bitcoin volatility. The market was deployed via Markets by Kinetiq's frontend in partnership with Volmex and Perps.inc.
The BVIV Index, often called a "bitcoin VIX," tracks the expected 30-day implied volatility of cryptocurrency in real time. It functions similarly to the Cboe's VIX index, which measures expected volatility in the S&P 500.
The new perpetual market allows traders to go long or short the volatility index directly, eliminating the need to express volatility views through options strategies, which typically require more capital and derivatives expertise. The BVIV perpetual is collateralized and denominated in USDC, with up to 5x leverage available at launch. Seda's oracle infrastructure connects the Volmex index to the Markets exchange onchain.
This marks the first onchain perpetual futures market for Volmex's Bitcoin volatility index and the first market deployed jointly by Kinetiq, Volmex, and Perps.inc. The listing adds volatility indices to Hyperliquid's existing perpetuals tied to crypto, equities, legacy indices, and commodities.
Hyperliquid is the world's largest decentralized exchange for perpetual futures, processing billions of dollars in daily trading volume. The launch reflects growing institutional adoption in digital assets, attracting hedge funds, volatility traders, and options-income sellers.
