Bitget announced on September 28 that it had reopened Bitcoin withdrawals on the Bitcoin network, marking the first stage of its recovery plan following a security breach detected on September 24. The exchange's service notice indicates the withdrawal channel is operational, though it does not document whether individual customer transfers have completed.
Bitget's security systems detected unauthorized transfers from hot wallets at 18:31 UTC on September 24. The exchange initially estimated the affected assets at approximately $351.6 million. A September 25 update revised that figure to approximately $387.5 million after identifying additional transactions from the original incident. Bitget stated the revision did not reflect new unauthorized transfers.
The exchange suspended withdrawals while keeping trading and deposits open during the security response. Bitget said customer balances remain unaffected and its Protection Fund will cover the financial impact of the incident.
Bitget outlined a phased schedule for reopening withdrawal services:
- September 28: BTC on Bitcoin
- September 29: ETH on Ethereum, BSC, Arbitrum, Base and Optimism
- September 30: USDT on Ethereum, BSC, Solana and Tron
- October 2: Other tokens, fiat and peer-to-peer services
The practical test of the exchange's recovery will be whether customer withdrawals complete successfully according to the announced schedule across each network and asset class.
