Bitwise has announced the liquidation of its Spot Dogecoin ETF (BWOW), marking another setback for cryptocurrency investment products as major altcoin funds struggle to gain traction. The fund will cease trading on October 14, with cash distributions expected around October 22.
BWOW held $687,000 in net assets at the time of the liquidation announcement. The fund recorded cumulative net inflows of -$1.23 million since Bitwise launched it in November 2025, indicating sustained outflows throughout its operation. Bitwise attributed the closure to optimizing its product lineup for changing investor needs, though persistent low liquidity appeared to be the primary driver.
Broader Weakness in Dogecoin ETFs
Bitwise's decision reflects a larger pattern affecting Dogecoin investment vehicles. Spot Dogecoin ETFs collectively have attracted only $12 million in cumulative net inflows since entering the market. January represented their strongest month with $4 million in inflows, but the funds shifted into net outflows during September, suggesting institutional investors have shown limited enthusiasm for the products.
Corporate Treasury Activity Stalls
Institutional Dogecoin demand has remained weak across multiple channels. CleanCore, the largest public corporate Dogecoin holder, made no purchases in 2026 and last acquired DOGE in October 2025. Bit Origin similarly made no additions during the past year while reporting losses exceeding $10 million. With both ETFs and corporate treasuries inactive as buyers, institutional support for Dogecoin has effectively stalled.
Market Response and Technical Outlook
Following the closure announcement, Dogecoin fell to $0.082 before rebounding slightly to $0.083. The muted price reaction suggested traders viewed the liquidation as a limited market shock. Technical indicators pointed to continued bearish pressure, with the Relative Vigor Index forming a bearish crossover and declining to 0.05, suggesting strengthening downside momentum. If selling pressure persists, Dogecoin could retest $0.081 and challenge the $0.08 support level.
