BIX, a finance app combining cryptocurrency wallet functionality with a Visa debit card, addresses a persistent friction point for stablecoins users: converting digital assets to spendable money.
Traditionally, accessing funds from stablecoins has required multiple steps: transferring to an exchange, selling, withdrawing to a bank account, and waiting for the transfer to complete. BIX streamlines this by allowing users to spend directly from their crypto holdings.
How the Service Works
The app supports USDC and USDT across Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Base, Solana, and Optimism. Users link their stablecoins balance to a Visa card that merchants accept like any standard card. The merchant receives fiat currency while the transaction appears as a simple tap from the user's perspective.
Pricing and Features
Standard membership is free. A virtual Visa card costs $9.99 and can be used immediately for online payments and contactless transactions. The company charges no funding fees but applies a 1% foreign exchange fee on overseas purchases.
A premium tier, BIX Plus, costs $119 annually and adds virtual accounts supporting incoming payments and outgoing transfers via ACH, SEPA, and SWIFT. Physical Visa Signature cards are planned at $99, with a 0.6% ATM withdrawal fee.
Current Availability
BIX currently supports residents of 29 U.S. states subject to identity verification and programme requirements. The company targets expansion to 49 states within six to eight months, pending approvals and partner readiness.
BIX is a finance app rather than a bank; card issuing and regulated financial services are provided through third-party institutions.
Future Development
Direct wallet-linked spending features remain under development. The company plans to extend functionality to international markets over time.
