BlackRock's tokenized US Treasury fund, BUIDL, has reclaimed the leading position among tokenized Treasury products with a market capitalization of approximately $2.8 billion, according to Token Terminal data. The fund now accounts for 18.5% of the $15.1 billion tokenized Treasury market.
How Tokenized Treasuries Work
Tokenized Treasury funds enable institutions to hold short-term US government debt on a blockchain, with settlement occurring around the clock rather than following the multi-day cycles typical of traditional bond markets. This structure has made them attractive for institutions managing idle cash or posting yield-bearing collateral.
Competitive Landscape Emerges
BUIDL's position at the top remains contested. Circle's USYC token briefly held the lead after growing from approximately $600 million to nearly $3 billion over the past year, reaching roughly $2.9 billion by late August before BUIDL reclaimed the top spot this week.
BUIDL is BlackRock's USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund, administered by Securitize. USYC represents a share in Circle's Hashnote-based fund, which Circle integrated into its stablecoin business following its acquisition of Hashnote in 2025.
Market Implications
The frequent leadership changes between funds suggest institutions are actively evaluating competing Treasury products rather than concentrating on a single option. This competition indicates the tokenized Treasury market is maturing into a genuinely contested category, moving beyond early-stage dominance by a single provider.
Growth in this segment has remained concentrated in government bond products, even as the broader real-world asset sector continues to expand.
