BlackRock's digital asset funds rebounded sharply in the third quarter, with holdings reaching $79.6 billion at the end of September, a 63% increase from $48.8 billion at the end of June, according to the asset manager's third-quarter earnings report released Wednesday.
The recovery marked a reversal from the first half of 2026, when BlackRock's crypto funds faced $2.2 billion in net outflows. During Q3, investors added $7.9 billion to the funds as cryptocurrency markets recovered from earlier weakness.
Rising asset prices drove most of the growth. Of the $30.8 billion increase in digital assets during the quarter, $22.9 billion came from market gains, while investor inflows contributed $7.9 billion.
Despite the gains, BlackRock's crypto holdings remain well below their prior peak. Assets are 23% below the $104 billion the company managed a year ago. Over the past 12 months, BlackRock attracted $6.3 billion in net new investor money to its digital asset products, but market value declines erased $30.6 billion over the same period.
BlackRock's digital asset business generated $39 million in quarterly fees and securities lending revenue. The company operates the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) but did not provide separate figures for the fund in its earnings release.
