BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) experienced a significant client withdrawal on October 12, 2026, with $75.07 million in Ethereum sold. The outflow accounted for most of the day's activity across all US spot Ethereum ETFs, which recorded total net outflows of $85.4 million.
The redemption extended a prolonged period of client exits from Ethereum ETF products. October 12 marked the ninth consecutive day of money leaving Ethereum ETFs. For the week ending October 9, spot Ethereum ETFs recorded $542.1 million in net redemptions, the largest weekly outflow since January 2026, with ETHA responsible for approximately 88% of those redemptions.
BlackRock's fund has experienced multiple large single-day withdrawals in recent weeks, including roughly $110 million on September 16 and $201.9 million on October 6.
Market Context
The redemptions occurred as Ethereum consolidated around $2,500 on October 12, down from its trading range earlier in the month between $2,600 and $2,715.
Total assets under management across US spot Ethereum ETFs stood at approximately $15.86 billion as of October 12, representing roughly 5.15% of Ethereum's total market capitalization.
ETHA's Market Position
Despite the recent selling pressure, ETHA remains the dominant force in the Ethereum ETF category. Since launching in July 2024, the fund has accumulated more than $12.7 billion in cumulative net inflows and charges a 0.25% sponsor fee.
Bitcoin ETFs, by contrast, recorded mixed to positive inflows during the same period, suggesting a potential tactical rotation among digital asset investors rather than a broader retreat from cryptocurrency.
