Blink Wallet Pauses Operations Following Security Breach
Lightning Network payments platform Blink Wallet announced it paused its services after discovering a security incident. According to the company, an attacker accessed a limited number of custodial accounts and withdrew funds.
Blink stated that the large majority of funds remain secure and that non-custodial users are unaffected. The platform estimated that a "few dozen custodial accounts" were compromised during the attack. While no specific monetary amount was disclosed, Blink promised that every affected account has been identified and will be made whole.
Attack Path and Restoration Efforts
Blink initially announced the service pause on Saturday morning via social media. As patches are deployed, the exact attack path remains unpublished, and a full post-mortem has not yet been released.
In response to user inquiries regarding the restoration timeline and urgent transaction needs, the Blink team stated that they are working to restore service as soon as possible and will provide updates shortly.
Recent Challenges Across Lightning Applications
The security incident adds to a recent series of challenges for Lightning Network applications and digital currency businesses. Other recent issues in the ecosystem include a critical bug reported in Btcpay Server, vulnerability disclosures by the Lightning Development Kit, and operational issues disclosed by the non-custodial swap service Boltz.
