Block Inc. added 120 Bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet during the third quarter of 2026, bringing its total holdings to 9,237 BTC, according to the company’s Q3 2026 earnings release on November 3, 2026.
Bitcoin Holdings and Valuation
As of September 30, 2026, Block’s Bitcoin was valued at approximately $771.9 million, with an estimated cost basis of $318.6 million.
The company funded the purchase by reinvesting part of the gross profit generated by its Bitcoin ecosystem, which operates mainly through Cash App transactions.
Bitcoin Ecosystem Performance
That ecosystem had a challenging quarter: Bitcoin ecosystem gross profit fell 50% year over year to $52 million. Block attributed the decline to deliberate fee cuts aimed at making Cash App’s Bitcoin services more accessible and improving its on-ramp for converting dollars into Bitcoin.
Broader Business Results
Despite the segment’s decline, Block’s overall results were strong. Total gross profit rose 22% year over year to $3.24 billion in Q3. Management raised full-year 2026 gross profit guidance to $12.626 billion.
The Bitcoin ecosystem’s $52 million gross profit represents a small portion of the $3.24 billion quarterly total.
Treasury Strategy Since 2020
Block, which trades on the NYSE under the ticker XYZ, began accumulating Bitcoin for its corporate treasury in October 2020 under co-founder Jack Dorsey. Since then, the company has accumulated Bitcoin based on profit generation rather than speculative trading and has not sold any of its investment Bitcoin.
The consistent approach has made Block one of the larger public corporate Bitcoin holders, previously ranking near 14th in Bitcoin treasury aggregations.
Implications for Investors
For Block shareholders, the Bitcoin position represents a growing line item with a meaningful unrealized gain, given the valuation of approximately $771.9 million against an estimated cost basis of $318.6 million.
However, the fee cuts that are driving adoption are also shrinking the profit pool used to fund Bitcoin purchases. If ecosystem gross profit continues to compress, future quarterly buys could shrink, as they are tied to that revenue.
Block’s approach contrasts with more aggressive corporate treasury strategies that rely on debt or equity raises to buy Bitcoin. Funding purchases from operating profit is slower but avoids shareholder dilution and leverage.
The raised full-year guidance of $12.626 billion provides room for Block to continue the strategy.
