BNB Chain is preparing a second Layer 1 network optimized for speed and latency-sensitive applications. Documentation published October 22 outlines a new high-performance blockchain that will operate alongside BNB Smart Chain and connect through a native bridge.
The network will maintain BNB as its shared economic asset across both chains, covering transaction fees, staking, and governance. Binance Founder Changpeng Zhao described the strategy as "Multiple chains, one coin."
Designed for High-Frequency Trading and Payments
The new Layer 1 targets use cases where transaction speed is critical. Specifications include approximately 200-millisecond block times, roughly 20-millisecond transaction pre-confirmations, and sub-second transaction ordering. This architecture is intended for high-frequency crypto trading, onchain order books, and real-time payments.
BNB Smart Chain will continue supporting its existing DeFi and application ecosystem, while the new chain handles more demanding workloads. This reflects a broader industry shift toward specialized blockchain infrastructure rather than forcing all applications onto a single general-purpose network.
Unified Token Economics
The decision to use BNB across both networks rather than launching a separate token means activity on the new chain could increase demand for the same asset. This approach provides a more familiar transition for developers and users compared to managing multiple native tokens.
BNB was trading around $743 when the plan details circulated. The token peaked in October 2025 at approximately $1,370, representing a decline of about 46% over the preceding year.
Development Timeline
BNB Chain reports that an internal multi-validator devnet is currently operating. A public testnet is planned for the end of 2026, with mainnet deployment targeted for early 2027.
The timing aligns with growing competitive pressure from high-performance onchain trading platforms such as Hyperliquid, Lighter, and Aster, which have raised market expectations around execution speed and quality.
