Cardano is advancing its post-quantum security agenda as part of its Cardano Vision 2026 initiative. On August 23, 2026, the official Cardano account shared researcher Robert Phair’s latest Cardano Improvement Proposal (CIP) process snapshot, highlighting proposals that entered formal community review to shield ADA wallets from future quantum computing threats.
The first proposal, CIP-0197, focuses on post-quantum security at the wallet layer by supplementing existing Ed25519 signatures with zero-knowledge proofs of hierarchical deterministic wallet seed phrases. When a wallet spends funds, its public key is exposed on-chain, creating a risk where a powerful quantum computer running Shor's algorithm could potentially reverse-engineer the private key. CIP-0197 allows wallet owners to prove control through a zero-knowledge proof of their seed without revealing the seed itself and without forcing users to migrate their existing addresses.
Alongside CIP-0197, a Cardano Problem Statement (CPS-0034) entered review to outline a shared framework for consistent Plutus Core behavior and quality assurance across multiple node implementations. Three additional proposals also remain under active community review, including CPS-0030, which targets a quantum-secure settlement layer as an earlier-stage research track.
These proposals form part of the Cardano Vision 2026 roadmap, which centers on post-quantum security, scalability, and decentralized governance. Because these are early-review proposals that have not yet been implemented, exact implementation timelines will depend on community consensus and the hard fork combinator upgrade process.
