Cardano's decentralized finance sector experienced a significant setback as its total value locked plunged by 16.17% over a 24-hour period, falling from $64.83 million to $54.35 million according to DeFiLlama data.
This decline occurred while ADA surged by more than 10%, successfully reclaiming the $0.19 level. While strong token price rallies typically boost investor confidence and drive capital inflows into DeFi protocols, the recent data reflects an opposite trend. Cardano's current TVL remains 87.56% below its August 2025 peak of $437.2 million.
Mixed Performance Across Ecosystem Metrics
Despite the sharp drop in TVL, other metrics within the Cardano DeFi ecosystem have shown varied results. The network's stablecoin market capitalization rose by 0.58% over the past week to reach $67.51 million.
Decentralized exchange activity weakened notably, with trading volume dropping 63.07% to $5.9 million. Conversely, derivatives and perpetual trading activity strengthened, increasing by 92.7% over the past week to $27.82 million.
Community Initiatives Aim for Recovery
Total value locked serves as a key indicator of user capital deposited across a network's decentralized applications, reflecting liquidity and ecosystem activity. To address the decline, the Cardano community is pursuing several initiatives to reverse the trend.
The community has approved a 120 million ADA treasury allocation to support AlphaGrowth PRIME, an initiative designed to increase Cardano's TVL by more than $200 million within 12 months.
Additionally, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson pointed to RealFi and Pogun—a Bitcoin DeFi initiative aimed at unlocking idle Bitcoin without requiring users to surrender asset custody—as potential long-term catalysts for ecosystem growth.
