Cardano's recent price surge has drawn attention to diverging performance among major altcoins. While Ethereum retreated nearly 2.5% in Q4, ADA continued climbing with a 5% gain during the same period, extending its quarterly rally to 42% from mid-September.
The sustainability of this rally has become a focal point for analysts. On-chain data from CoinGlass revealed a $2 million long liquidation on October 7th, the largest since Q4 2025, raising questions about whether the upside is being driven primarily by liquidity dynamics.
However, additional metrics suggest the rally has broader backing. According to Santiment data, when ADA gained approximately 10% between October 3rd and 5th, open interest grew nearly 25% to 304 million—the highest daily close since early April. Measured in ADA terms, open interest increased by about 13%, indicating fresh positioning rather than price-driven growth alone.
Whale accumulation has also intensified. Large transactions of $100,000 or more reached 413 on October 5th, marking the highest whale activity since June 4th. This spike in institutional interest coincided with ADA's return above a $10 billion market cap.
Social metrics have reflected the growing attention, with ADA's social dominance reaching 1.16%, its highest level of 2026. The combination of elevated leverage, whale accumulation, and increased social engagement suggests momentum is being sustained by fresh market entry rather than short covering alone.
