The Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Innovation Advisory Committee is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, August 20, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The agenda focuses on crypto assets, artificial intelligence, and prediction markets, bringing together 35 committee members in Washington with a public livestream available on the agency's website.
Chairman Michael S. Selig sponsors the committee, which was previously known as the Technology Advisory Committee and was renamed in January. The 35-member roster was announced on February 12 following a public nomination period.
Seven of the committee seats are held by leaders of event-contract venues and competing sportsbooks. Among them are Kalshi Chief Executive Tarek Mansour and Polymarket Chief Executive Shayne Coplan, alongside Draftkings' Jason Robins, Fanduel President Christian Genetski, Robinhood’s Vlad Tenev, Crypto.com Chief Executive Kris Marszalek, and Bitnomial’s Luke Hoersten.
The broader roster also includes representatives from major cryptocurrency firms and traditional financial institutions, such as Brian Armstrong of Coinbase, Hayden Adams of Uniswap Labs, Brad Garlinghouse of Ripple, Tyler Winklevoss of Gemini, Arjun Sethi of Kraken, Anatoly Yakovenko of Solana Labs, and Sergey Nazarov of Chainlink Labs, as well as executives from CME Group, Nasdaq, Cboe, Intercontinental Exchange, and the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation.
The committee meeting follows recent regulatory developments involving event contracts and prediction markets. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has filed lawsuits against nine states regarding prediction markets and submitted amicus briefs defending its jurisdiction. Additionally, the agency's Division of Market Oversight issued an advisory on August 12 regarding self-certifications for trading and incentive programs, giving exchanges until September 14 to amend deficient filings.
While the advisory committee serves to provide insights, recommendations, and advice to the commission without formal regulatory authority, it places major industry figures on the record regarding ongoing regulatory questions.
