Chainalysis reported approximately $443.3 billion in cryptocurrency value received across the Middle East and North Africa during its study period from July 2025 to June 2026, representing a 1.4% decline from the previous year.
The report revealed sharply different trajectories across individual countries in the region. The United Arab Emirates experienced growth of 32%, reaching approximately $104.8 billion, while Türkiye maintained its position as the region's largest market at around $144.5 billion.
Additional findings highlighted a fivefold rise in Turkish domestic peer-to-peer stablecoin volume. The analysis also noted interruptions to Iranian cryptocurrency activity during internet blackouts.
Understanding the Metrics
Regional cryptocurrency usage reflects differences in banking access, remittances, regulation, inflation, and technology infrastructure. On-chain measures capture cryptocurrency transfers visible to analytical models, but they do not represent every retail transaction or unique individual user.
Large institutional transactions, exchange transfers, currency hedging, and remittances can all affect reported headline values. The measurement period is significant: the data covers activity through June 2026 and should not be interpreted as reflecting October market conditions.
Interpreting Adoption Data
A rise in transaction value does not necessarily correspond to a proportional increase in the number of individuals using digital assets for everyday purchases. Transaction volumes can be influenced by infrastructure changes, licensing restructuring, currency access needs, and temporary network disruptions.
When evaluating adoption reports, key considerations include the measurement period, which types of transfers are counted, how unidentified entities are handled, and consistency of methodology across countries being compared.
