Chainlink released version 2.0 of its Cross-Chain Interoperability Program (CCIP) on September 28, laying groundwork for its Q4 cycle. However, the LINK token slipped 8.12% from the day's $14.02 open, reflecting both the wider cryptocurrency market sell-off and investor caution about near-term prospects.
The price decline occurred despite LINK maintaining its broader bullish trend. Analysts noted that while the CCIP upgrade represented improved cross-chain functionality, the altcoin remained vulnerable to macroeconomic conditions and sentiment shifts specific to the token.
Technical Pressure Mounts
On the 4-hour timeframe, LINK broke below the neckline of a head-and-shoulders pattern, signaling potential further downside. If the token continued trading below $13.56, analysts identified $12.39 and $11.98 as likely support targets.
The daily timeframe presented a more mixed picture. While swing structure remained bullish and the Accumulation/Distribution indicator showed buyer dominance, the Awesome Oscillator highlighted short-term bearish momentum. The $12 area emerged as key support, with multiple price wicks to that level over the preceding two weeks.
October Outlook
The breach of a $13.47 swing low a few days prior shifted the 4-hour structure bearishly, with technical indicators suggesting heightened sell pressure entering October. A deeper retracement toward the 78.6% Fibonacci level at $11.72 remained possible.
From its September peak of $15.77 following the CCIP 2.0 announcement, LINK has retraced approximately 18.4%. Some analysts suggested buyers could wait for positive price action in the $11.72-$12.00 range before reconsidering entry points.
