Chainlink has entered a strategic partnership with LG CNS, the technology subsidiary of South Korea's LG Group, to develop infrastructure for the country's digital asset industry. The agreement, announced on Thursday, will integrate Chainlink's services into LG CNS's Digital Asset Platform Solution, targeting financial institutions seeking regulated blockchain applications.
Targeting a $68 Billion Market
The partnership aims at South Korea's $68 billion cryptocurrency market, which has more than 11 million eligible users. According to Chainlink, the arrangement also includes cooperation on technical standards as Korean policymakers and businesses work toward a more established framework for cryptocurrency-based financial products.
LG CNS Brings Central Bank Experience
LG CNS serves as the lead contractor for Project Hangang, the Bank of Korea's digital currency initiative, handling development, operations, and infrastructure expansion. The program's first phase involved approximately 80,000 customers across seven Korean banks, giving the company experience with digital payment systems. Its parent conglomerate holds approximately 186 trillion won in assets across 63 affiliates, with subsidiaries collectively valued at more than $100 billion.
Chainlink Adds Cross-Chain Capabilities
Chainlink's technology supplies external data to blockchain applications, enables communication between separate networks, and coordinates transactions across different platforms. The companies intend to apply those capabilities to stablecoin distribution, allowing participating organizations to explore ways of transferring tokenized money between otherwise incompatible environments.
"Korea's financial infrastructure is entering the tokenization era," said Hongkeun Kim, executive vice president and head of LG CNS's Digital Business Division. Kim also identified international expansion as an objective.
Korean Financial Markets Prepare for Tokenization
South Korea ranks as Asia's second-largest cryptocurrency market, while the Korean won trails only the U.S. dollar in global crypto trading volume, according to Chainlink's cited data and confirmed by Bitcoin.com News. Tokenized securities represent another opportunity, particularly as financial firms investigate blockchain-based representations of conventional investment instruments.
Chainlink already maintains relationships with Swift, Euroclear, Mastercard, and UBS, giving it an established presence among major financial organizations. However, the announcement provided no financial terms, identified customers, or commercial deployment timetable. It also did not establish that Chainlink's technology would be integrated directly into Project Hangang.
