Circle Internet Group stock climbed 4.82% to $94.24 after the company announced it has become Chelsea FC's principal partner and official front-of-shirt sponsor for the 2026/27 season. The agreement marks the first principal Premier League shirt sponsorship involving a cryptocurrency financial services company.
Under the partnership, Circle and USDC branding will appear prominently across Chelsea's men's, women's, and academy team shirts throughout the 2026/27 season. Chelsea unveiled the new shirt design during a Premier League home match against Brighton and Hove Albion, ending a three-year period without a permanent front-of-shirt sponsor.
Expanding USDC's Consumer Reach
The sponsorship gives USDC, the world's second-largest dollar-pegged stablecoin, significant exposure across television, digital platforms, retail channels, and global fan communities. USDC currently circulates near $73.9 billion, representing approximately 25.3% of the total dollar stablecoin supply of roughly $292.2 billion.
Circle has positioned USDC around faster digital payments and blockchain settlement services. The Chelsea agreement extends the company's visibility beyond financial markets into mainstream sports audiences with limited prior exposure to stablecoin products.
Regulatory Context
The partnership arrives during increased scrutiny of cryptocurrency marketing in the United Kingdom. The Financial Conduct Authority warned Premier League clubs in June about partnerships involving unauthorized crypto firms, citing potential risks under financial promotion rules.
Circle operates within a regulated stablecoin framework in the United States, and USDC aligns with the GENIUS Act framework. Previous cryptocurrency partnerships in English football primarily involved sleeve sponsorships, including deals with OKX and Kraken.
Financial terms of the Chelsea agreement remain undisclosed, though earlier reports estimated Chelsea's annual sponsorship target near £65 million, equivalent to approximately $88.3 million.
