Circle (NYSE: CRCL) launched its Arc blockchain with support from more than 100 institutions, including BlackRock and Visa as founding validators. The blockchain had already processed over 700 million transactions before its public mainnet launch.
Despite the product milestone, CRCL stock declined 3.88% on September 16, trading at $83. The stock has fallen approximately 10% since September 15 following the failure of the CLARITY Act bill in a Senate vote.
Technical Pressure and Market Sentiment
Market analysts noted mixed outlooks for the stock. One analyst observed that the stock is defending support at its 200-day simple moving average of $85. Potential downside targets identified include $80 as a psychological support level and $76 if support at $86 breaks.
Technical analysis suggested CRCL had formed a rounded top pattern, which typically precedes bearish trend reversals. The pattern would be confirmed if the stock closes below $84.73 for three consecutive days, potentially leading to a 17% decline to $70.
Volume data showed the highest sell-side pressure since July 10, with the On-Balance Volume indicator also declining. The Relative Strength Index fell from 60 to 49 within two days, indicating strengthening bearish momentum.
Macroeconomic Headwinds
Broader market conditions added pressure to the stock. The Federal Reserve was scheduled to announce its interest rate decision on September 16. Prediction market data showed 93% of investors expected the Fed to raise rates, which historically pressures risk assets including stocks.
The US 20-year Treasury yield rose above 5% and reached its highest level since July 2007. Rising government bond yields can redirect investor capital toward safer fixed-income instruments.
