Citi and Coinbase have expanded their collaboration to introduce two new products aimed at connecting traditional fiat banking with stablecoin payments. According to Citi, the initiative provides businesses with rails to move between traditional bank money and stablecoins without managing separate crypto systems.
New Products for Institutional and Corporate Clients
The collaboration includes two U.S.-first products. Coinbase Virtual Accounts utilizes Citi’s Virtual Account Wallet to give payments customers bank-account-like features, which automatically convert incoming fiat currency into stablecoins.
Additionally, a product called Spring by Citi allows institutional clients to accept stablecoin payments at checkout via Coinbase Payments. The service provides automatic conversion to fiat currency, with Citi acting as the bank of record for settlement.
Expanding Merchant Reach
The release notes that merchants can now reach more than 150 million stablecoin holders without needing to hold, custody, or manage digital assets directly.
Alec Lovett, head of infrastructure product at Coinbase, commented on the significance of the banking link: “Clients building on Coinbase have always needed a fast, compliant bridge between fiat and stablecoins, and Citi gives us that at scale.”
This latest push builds upon an earlier partnership established in October 2025 and arrives as stablecoin regulations continue to tighten in both the United States and the European Union.
