CME Group reported a record third-quarter revenue of approximately $1.74 billion on October 21, reflecting a 13% increase from the same period a year earlier. The results highlight strong performance across the exchange operator's markets, alongside a continued expansion into digital-asset derivatives.
According to the company's earnings release, Q3 revenue reached $1.7373 billion, compared to $1.5376 billion in the previous year. Average daily volume across the exchange hit approximately 29.4 million contracts, while market-data revenue totaled $243 million. These figures represent company-wide operations and do not isolate cryptocurrency trading revenue.
Crypto Expansion and Trading Activity
CME has continued to broaden its digital-asset offerings. A previous product announcement on September 22 outlined plans to schedule Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap futures for October 19, pending regulatory review, in both standard and Micro contract sizes.
That September announcement also noted that first-half crypto futures and options achieved an average daily volume of 279,800 contracts, representing $8.3 billion in notional value. However, analysts emphasize that these figures apply to the first half of the year and should not be conflated with the broader third-quarter financial results.
Exchange operators note that rising contract counts and trading activity reflect higher participation or hedging needs rather than a specific directional market bet. Furthermore, differing contract sizes, such as Micro contracts versus standard offerings, mean raw contract counts cannot be directly interchanged with total notional value growth.
