CME Group has scheduled the introduction of Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap futures for October 19, providing institutional derivatives traders with two additional cryptocurrency markets to access through a regulated venue. The exchange first disclosed the expansion on September 22, and the launch remains subject to regulatory review and confirmation of live trading.
Contract Sizes and Structure
The exchange plans to offer both standard and micro contracts for both digital assets:
- Bitcoin Cash (BCH): Standard contracts of 250 BCH and micro contracts of 25 BCH.
- Uniswap (UNI): Standard contracts of 10,000 UNI and micro contracts of 1,000 UNI.
These contracts are structured to allow market participants to manage price exposure without requiring custody of the underlying tokens. This option caters to trading firms and institutions that utilize futures within broader portfolios or hedging operations.
Institutional Infrastructure and Context
The inclusion of Uniswap brings a token from the decentralized finance sector into the exchange's regulated offerings. CME noted that the planned additions are a response to customer demand for risk-management tools, continuing the exchange's approach of expanding its crypto product range beyond Bitcoin and Ether.
The exchange emphasized that a published target date does not serve as formal confirmation that every contract has begun trading. Additionally, market observers note that the introduction of a listed futures contract does not establish demand for a future exchange-traded fund, nor does it indicate that regulators have approved any spot ETF for these assets.
