Coinbase and Stablecore Enable Community Banks to Offer Digital Asset Services

Coinbase and Stablecore have partnered to bring digital asset and stablecoin services to community banks and credit unions across the United States. The integration enables smaller financial institutions to offer regulated custody, trading, and payment tools directly within their existing banking platforms.

Stablecore's platform already connects with core banking systems at more than 3,000 US banks and credit unions. The partnership is already operational at several institutions, including Amarillo National Bank in Texas, providing a working example ahead of broader deployment.

How the Integration Works

The arrangement allows banks to avoid building separate cryptocurrency platforms. Stablecore manages integration across a bank's core, digital, and compliance systems, while Coinbase supplies the regulated custody and exchange services.

Banks retain full control of customer relationships, with digital asset products appearing under each institution's own brand. Deposit and lending relationships remain with the local bank rather than shifting to third parties.

Customer Access and Features

Customers of participating banks can buy, sell, hold, and stake digital assets directly through their existing banking app. The arrangement includes payment capabilities and staking options, providing entry points into digital asset activity without requiring separate accounts or new provider relationships.

Competitive Impact for Smaller Banks

The partnership addresses a previous advantage held by larger banks with greater resources to build digital asset infrastructure. Community and regional banks can now offer comparable services under their own names and terms, potentially reshaping how local banking customers first encounter digital assets.

Alec Lovett, Head of Infrastructure Business at Coinbase, stated that community banks and credit unions should not have to choose between remaining local and staying current with payments technology. Alex Treece, Co-Founder and CEO of Stablecore, emphasized that the platform brings together the necessary components so banks do not need to adopt entirely new technology systems.
