Coinbase’s tokenized US stocks went live on Monday on Base, accompanied by a Chainlink integration designed to supply price data for decentralized finance applications.
Chainlink Data Feeds will deliver continuous pricing for tokenized stocks such as Nvidia, Apple, Meta, and Alphabet. This data enables DeFi protocols to incorporate the assets into structured products, decentralized exchanges, and lending markets, including serving as collateral for borrowing.
Chainlink documentation indicates that the feeds value each token using the underlying stock price alongside a Coinbase-supplied multiplier that accounts for corporate actions and dividends.
Issued as B20 tokens natively on Coinbase's layer-2 blockchain Base, the assets are available to non-US users in eligible jurisdictions. Base notes that each token represents a direct claim on an underlying share held with regulated broker and custodian Alpaca under an Abu Dhabi Global Market-supervised structure. The tokens support round-the-clock trading and can be stored in self-custody wallets.
Base stated that the stocks integrate with current DeFi infrastructure, allowing use cases such as employing tokenized Nvidia shares as loan collateral on Aave or supplying tokenized Apple shares to decentralized exchanges. Additional Coinbase tokenized stocks are anticipated to launch on Base in the coming weeks.
This development arrives amid continued growth in the tokenized equities market. According to data from RWA.xyz, the total value of tokenized stocks has reached approximately $2.48 billion, representing a 5.2% increase over 30 days. Monthly transfer volume has risen to $27.28 billion, and the holder count has exceeded 2.1 million.
