Some Coinbase users cannot currently convert Brazilian reais (BRL) to buy or sell crypto, according to a post on X flagging the problem. The complaint adds to a pattern of reported difficulties for Brazilian users trying to get reais onto the platform this year, including deposit outages and rejected transfers.
What users are reporting
Users say they cannot convert BRL into the funds needed to place crypto trades, on either the buy or sell side. In October 2026, users reported multiple failed BRL deposits made through PIX, even after completing Coinbase’s know-your-customer identity checks.
Some of those users said they had filed support tickets. Deposits from several major banks, including Nubank and Banco do Brasil, were reportedly rejected or sent back.
Earlier disruptions
In March 2026, Coinbase’s status page listed an incident labeled “Degraded Performance – BRL Fiat Deposits.” The disruption affected user transactions for roughly one to two days.
Coinbase Brasil also maintains a public help article explaining how account closures and fund recovery work.
BRL/USDC market and promotion
In August 2026, Coinbase launched a direct BRL/USDC trading market on Coinbase Advanced, its more professional trading interface. USDC is a stablecoin designed to track the US dollar. The pair lets users swap reais for USDC without routing through an extra conversion step, and the change reportedly cut onboarding costs by approximately 85%.
Coinbase has also offered incentives. A promotional campaign running until November 8, 2026, offers Brazilian users up to an 8% USDC bonus on eligible BRL or crypto inflows.
What to watch
The bank-level detail is notable: when deposits from large institutions such as Nubank and Banco do Brasil reportedly fail for verified accounts, the fix may require coordination beyond Coinbase’s own systems.
For traders, the near-term question is straightforward. Anyone depending on BRL conversions on Coinbase may want to monitor the company’s status page and support channels before moving significant sums.
The other date worth watching is November 8, 2026, when the USDC bonus promotion is set to end. If on-ramp issues persist through that window, some users could find the incentive harder to actually claim.
