U.S. initial jobless claims totaled 197,000 for the week ending October 3, according to the Labor Department, below the 200,000 forecast and down 2,000 from the previous week's revised reading. The four-week average declined to 198,000. Continuing claims, however, increased by 17,000 to 1.716 million for the week ending September 26.
Cryptocurrency markets weakened broadly on the day, with Bitcoin trading near $82,700, Ethereum around $2,550, and XRP at approximately $1.41. Bitcoin fell below $83,000 on Thursday morning, while Ethereum, XRP, and Solana also recorded losses. CoinGlass data showed more than $400 million in cryptocurrency liquidations over the previous 24 hours, coinciding with weakness across U.S. equities and higher oil prices and Treasury yields.
On October 7, Circle announced a stablecoin payments partnership with Tereina, an SAP-backed financial services company. The integration begins with SAP Cloud ERP and brings USDC and EURC into existing enterprise payment workflows. Eligible businesses will be able to send and receive stablecoin payments through applications their finance teams already use, with USDC serving dollar transactions and EURC providing an option for euro-denominated payments. Circle and Tereina plan customer trials, specialist training, and collaboration with ecosystem partners over the coming months.
