Cronos Network announced a token burn removing 228 million CRO from the community pool after voters approved two governance proposals on October 3. The destruction brings total community-initiated burns to 428 million CRO tokens.
The burned tokens carried an estimated market value of approximately $15 million at the time of the announcement. CRO traded near $0.0669, with daily trading volume around $5.82 million and market capitalization near $3.31 billion, according to Coingecko data.
Governance Approval and Execution
Proposal 36 authorized the transfer of tokens from the community pool to a burn address on Cronos POS. The 228 million tokens exceeded the combined total of four previous burn rounds, each of which removed 50 million CRO.
The immediate operation used tokens already held by the community pool and did not require purchasing the entire amount from exchanges. Published transaction hashes will allow independent verification of the burn execution.
Revenue-Linked Buyback Framework
Proposal 37 commits 100 percent of revenue from Ult and Cronos Launch to open market token purchases and monthly destruction. Ult generates trading revenue, while Cronos Launch collects fees from tokens created and traded through its launchpad platform.
Transaction hashes published monthly will document the amounts purchased and burned. Cronos Labs stated that existing capital will fund operations, infrastructure, and growth spending rather than revenue from these two products.
The purchase budget will vary with product revenue and market conditions at execution. Cronos Launch opened on September 15, followed by Ult on September 17.
Staking Rewards and Market Impact
Staking rewards retain their current terms and lock periods. The Strategic Reserve will support payouts as emissions decline under existing policy, keeping reward funding separate from revenue committed to monthly burns.
While token supply reduction can affect market dynamics, it does not guarantee price increases. Liquidity, demand, reserve distributions, and broader market conditions continue to influence CRO trading activity.
