Crypto Investments Surpass Stocks in Brazil, New Survey Finds

A new survey has found that cryptocurrency investments have surpassed stocks in Brazil, with digital assets becoming the country's fifth most popular investment option. The second Brazilian National Crypto Survey was conducted by research firm Paradigma and market research institution Datafolha, and sponsored by Coinbase and Hashdex.

The poll surveyed 2,004 respondents across 137 municipalities from May 11 to May 14 at fixed poll stations, yielding a 95% confidence level and a 2% margin of error.

Key Findings on Adoption and Awareness

The survey revealed that two-thirds of Brazilians are aware of cryptocurrencies, marking a 10% increase from 2025 levels. Bitcoin and ethereum rank as the top two most recognized digital assets in the country, with Brazil's central bank digital currency project, Drex, ranking third.

While traditional options like savings, real estate, money at home, and investment funds occupy the top four spots, crypto ranks fifth with an adoption rate of 17.2%. This figure places digital assets ahead of fixed-income bank certificates at 15.1%, foreign currency at 14%, gold at 9.8%, and the stock market at 6.4%.

The findings indicate that Brazilians who have invested in crypto more than double the number of stock market investors, translating to an estimated 29 million crypto users nationwide. However, traditional savings accounts continue to hold a larger base, outnumbering crypto investors by more than three times.

Demographics and Custody Habits

Referred to as the "moeda do povo" (the people's coin) in the report, crypto investment in Brazil spans lower-income brackets rather than remaining an elite financial product. The data shows that over 77% of surveyed crypto investors earn less than three minimum wages, with more than a third earning less than a single minimum wage.

Regarding custody, 83% of the surveyed investors acquire and hold their digital assets using bank apps and infrastructure. Meanwhile, 26% rely on self-custody wallets, and 20% hold their crypto assets on an exchange.
