Cryptocurrency markets posted a broad-based rally Friday, with Bitcoin reclaiming the $78,000 level and altcoins across the top 100 by market capitalization trading in the green over the 24-hour period. The total crypto sector market capitalization climbed 2.55% to approximately $2.68 trillion.
The recovery came despite recent macroeconomic headwinds, including the Federal Reserve's first rate hike in more than three years and the stalling of the CLARITY Act in Congress earlier in the week.
Leading Gainers
Over the past 24 hours, notable performers included Starknet, Arbitrum, Uniswap, Hyperliquid, Zcash, Solana, and NEAR.
Weekly gainers tracked by CoinMarketCap included Lisk, Arbitrum, GEODNET, NEAR, Zcash, and Uniswap. Arbitrum's ARB token posted a 167% gain over the past month, while Zcash pushed toward the $1,500 level following a September 17 short squeeze that closed out $56.35 million in bearish positions.
Derivatives Activity
Cumulative open interest in crypto derivatives rose by nearly 5% to $141.2 billion, reflecting increased market participation alongside spot price movements.
Market Context
Bitcoin's performance in September is particularly notable given the month's historical weakness. BTC is down 1.5% for September but up approximately 32% for the quarter.
Analyst commentary suggests seller exhaustion may have contributed to the rally. Investor Kevin O'Leary stated he is actively buying new positions for the next cycle, though he cautioned against expecting CLARITY Act passage before the midterm elections.
