Crypto Prices Pause Following Strong Weekly Gains as Treasury Launches Iran Campaign

Major cryptocurrencies are seeing a quieter 24-hour trading period following a strong week of gains. The market pause aligns with a geopolitical announcement from Washington regarding a new global economic offensive.

XRP is trading near $1.48, remaining nearly flat over the past 24 hours despite a 49.5% gain over the past week. Bitcoin is trading near $78,738, up 23.4% over the week, while Ethereum trades near $2,468 after climbing 29.8% over the same period. Additionally, Solana and Hyperliquid posted weekly gains of 26.6% and roughly 13% respectively. Across the board, assets displayed large weekly increases followed by a quieter 24-hour window, suggesting the market is pausing to digest recent news.

Treasury Launches Operation Economic Outcast

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled a new global economic offensive targeting Iran's financial networks. Framing the initiative, Bessent stated that Iran faces a choice between complete global isolation and a subsistence economy or a path back to normalcy by rejoining the global economy.

The effort, named Operation Economic Outcast, aims to close off remaining options available to Tehran. Bessent compared the campaign to the D-Day campaign, describing the initiative as an economic onslaught against Iran's global financial connections.

Targeting Sanctions Evasion Networks

According to Bessent, the Treasury has mapped every node Iran utilizes to evade global sanctions, including networks relied upon for smuggling oil and moving money internationally. Describing the approach as having zero leakage, the campaign is designed to leave the regime without breathing space to rebuild funding sources tied to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Coordinated actions from the Treasury and other federal agencies are intended to block all remaining revenue streams connected to the IRGC.

Market Reaction and Outlook

Announcements involving Iran sanctions and geopolitical escalation have previously introduced volatility into traditional and cryptocurrency markets, frequently triggering short-term risk-off behavior. The relatively flat 24-hour price action across major digital assets, despite strong weekly performances, indicates that traders are taking a cautious stance while evaluating how the new sanctions campaign might impact broader market sentiment.
