Cryptocurrency traders are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence for research and analysis, but remain skeptical about automated trading execution, according to a recent survey.
A MEXC report based on responses from over 3,800 traders conducted between September 14–20 found that 68.9% of respondents use AI in their trading, predominantly before executing trades rather than during or after.
How Traders Use AI
News summaries represent the largest use case, with 54% of respondents relying on AI for this purpose. Market analysis, opportunity identification, and concept explanation follow at 48.6%, 38.0%, and 34.5% respectively. Only 8.5% of respondents use AI after trading.
Most traders employ general-purpose AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude, though 62.7% expressed preference for AI features built directly into cryptocurrency exchanges.
Limited Adoption of Automated Trading
Despite widespread interest in AI, fully automated trading remains limited. Only 13% of survey respondents had tried using AI agents for market trading, while 50.1% expressed interest but had not attempted it.
MEXC CEO Vugar Usi Zade stated that user interest in AI has not yet translated to widespread readiness for full automation, noting that "even among those who have experimented with automated execution, one in two fears that they might not notice a problem in time to stop it."
Traders cited incorrect trades, account security, and technical complexity as primary deterrents. Most investors expressed willingness to allocate no more than 20% of their account funds to automation, even with risk safeguards in place.
AI Agent Tokens Weaken
Despite trader interest in AI tools, AI agent-related tokens have declined approximately 7% in 24 hours, with market capitalization at $2.368 billion. Trading volume for these tokens surged 28.4% to $524 million during the same period. Rising volume paired with falling prices typically signals continued market weakness.
