Crypto VC funding falls to $4.5B in Q3 2026 as later-stage deals slow

Crypto venture capital investment fell to $4.519 billion across 296 deals in the third quarter of 2026, according to a Galaxy Research report dated October 28, 2026. That represented a 20% drop in capital from the prior quarter and a 24% decline in deal count.

The pullback was driven mainly by a slowdown in later-stage financing, though the size of the checks that were written stayed roughly the same.

Later-stage deals still dominate

Later-stage rounds accounted for about 76% of all capital deployed, with Galaxy placing the share between 76% and 76.5%. Early-stage founders faced a different market: pre-seed and seed rounds made up 44.9% of transactions but captured only 6% of the capital.

US and trading-focused companies lead concentration

US-headquartered companies pulled in 74.9% of total capital and accounted for 44.6% of deals. By sector, the trading, exchange, investing and lending category led by a wide margin, drawing around $2.37 billion, or close to half of all capital invested in the quarter.

Year-to-date investment

Through the end of the third quarter, 2026 investment reached $14.537 billion across 1,040 deals. Galaxy’s annualized run rate points to a possible full-year total of approximately $19.383 billion, which would be below 2025’s $20.3 billion total but not dramatically so. Galaxy framed the figures as a sign of stabilization relative to the downturn of 2023 and 2024.

The report also flagged a broader pattern: capital is increasingly concentrating among established players, particularly in the US, while new ventures continue to face fundraising challenges. The research summary described the overall mood as cautious, with macroeconomic factors and regulatory scrutiny cited as likely influences.
