Cryptocurrency Stocks COIN and HOOD Face Key Levels as Trump-Xi Summit Looms

Cryptocurrency-linked equities are drawing focus as digital asset prices strengthen before high-level Washington talks scheduled for this week. Bitcoin has surged to $86,159, Ethereum is holding around $2,755, and XRP trades near $1.58, providing tailwinds for crypto stocks even as geopolitical developments threaten to shift investor sentiment.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Washington from September 23 through September 25, with a summit planned for September 24. The talks are expected to cover trade, tariffs, rare earth exports, artificial intelligence, Taiwan, and Iran. Market observers view potential diplomatic progress as a factor that could influence oil prices, inflation expectations, and the Federal Reserve's interest-rate trajectory.

Oil Markets and Monetary Policy

Oil prices represent a direct link between the summit outcome and financial markets. China purchases most Iranian crude exports, and any signal that Beijing may reduce those imports could affect crude valuations. Lower oil prices could ease inflationary pressures and potentially influence the Fed's policy path. Positive diplomatic developments, even modest ones, tend to support both stocks and cryptocurrencies as risk appetite improves.

However, tensions over Taiwan, tariffs, or technology controls could reverse sentiment and drive demand for defensive assets.

HOOD Stock Tests Resistance

Robinhood shares rose 0.84% to $124.33, recovering from weakness below $120. The stock cleared $123.30 on increased volume, signaling stronger demand. Immediate resistance stands near $125, which represents the main barrier for extending the rebound. A sustained breakout could push HOOD toward $127 and the broader $130 target.

Lower oil prices and improved monetary policy expectations could support this scenario, as reduced borrowing costs generally benefit growth stocks. Higher risk appetite could also drive more trading activity across stocks, options, and cryptocurrencies, benefiting Robinhood's platform.

If HOOD fails to hold $123.30, momentum would weaken and expose support around $122.50, with deeper retreats potentially returning the stock toward $120.

COIN Stock Seeks Technical Recovery

Coinbase stock fell 0.67% to $199.70, underperforming Robinhood after volatility and an overnight rebound from below $195. Shares have struggled to clear the $201.05 level despite Bitcoin's renewed strength near $86,000.

Coinbase must reclaim $201.05 to improve its technical structure and challenge resistance around $202.50. A breakout with strong volume could open a move toward $205 and confirm firmer short-term momentum.

The stock's direction remains tied to transaction activity and investor sentiment, both of which can be influenced by outcomes affecting oil, inflation, interest rates, and broader risk appetite. Positive diplomatic language could help Coinbase follow Bitcoin higher, particularly if traders expect fewer rate increases. Weakness below $197.50 would shift focus back toward $195 and undermine the developing recovery.
