Deutsche Bank, Germany's largest bank, is awaiting regulatory approval to launch digital asset custody solutions for institutional clients and corporations in Europe. The bank announced it plans to go live with the offering for its first clients this year, subject to completion of the regulatory timeline.
The custody service will initially support Bitcoin, Ether, and select stablecoins including Circle USDC, EURC, and AllUnity EUR. Support for tokenized financial instruments is planned for a later phase.
Deutsche Bank expects to receive the license for the custody offering in October under the EU's Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework, according to a bank spokesperson. The push into crypto services is expected to accelerate following MiCA's full enforcement on July 1.
The bank first revealed plans for crypto custody solutions in 2023 as part of a partnership with Taurus, after applying for a digital asset custody license in Germany. This latest development confirms earlier reports of Deutsche Bank developing crypto custody services, following statements from the bank's head of digital assets in June regarding consideration of stablecoin market participation.
Other German financial institutions are pursuing similar offerings. In April 2024, Landesbank Baden-Württemberg began offering crypto custody solutions following a partnership with Austria-based Bitpanda. Additionally, DZ Bank received authorization from German regulator BaFin under MiCA in December 2025 to operate its meinKrypto platform.
