Dogecoin has gained access to the Solana ecosystem through the Sunrise protocol, a cross-chain liquidity gateway associated with Wormhole infrastructure. The integration, which went live on September 7, allows Dogecoin to operate within Solana without requiring users to navigate manual, multi-step bridging processes.
The Sunrise protocol uses a unified mint for incoming assets to prevent competing versions of Dogecoin from fragmenting liquidity across Solana. Historically limited in decentralized finance functionality due to its payment-focused blockchain, Dogecoin can now tap into Solana's broader DeFi ecosystem, including platforms such as Raydium, Jupiter, and Kamino, enabling users to trade and provide liquidity.
Trading Volume and Market Response
Shortly after its launch, Dogecoin generated over $10 million in Solana trading volume within three hours, with the 24-hour figure ultimately reaching $19 million. Despite the initial launch activity, Dogecoin experienced a modest price drop over the 24-hour period, trading at $0.08915 at press time. Traders have shown signs of losing momentum alongside increasing selling pressure and declining overall trading activity, though the asset still recorded a 27.2% gain over the preceding month.
Dogecoin's perpetual market has experienced high volatility with sharp liquidation spikes as prices moved between approximately $0.08 and $0.09. Long liquidations have dominated several September trading sessions, indicating the presence of crowded bullish positioning. Meanwhile, the broader Solana memecoin market cap stood at $3.69 billion following a 3.4% decline over a 24-hour period.
