In this article, we look at how to participate in the Zetachain testnet and receive tokens for free from the layer-1 airdrop.
The Zetachain mainnet is expected to be launched in Q4 2023 with a parallel incentive distribution for early adopters of the cryptographic project.
Zetachain Labs has secured $27 million in funding and could use some of this capital for an airdrop with a potential value of more than $1,000 per community member.

What is layer-1 Zetachain?
Zetachain is a layer-1 network developed in 2021 with the goal of connecting 100 different infrastructures, including those that do not support smart contracts such as Bitcoin.
The blockchain is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and its main focus is to improve the interoperability of the crypto world through its platform, without going through dangerous bridges and without wrapping any tokens.
As such, Zetachain developers have the ability to implement a single contract that manages resources and data across all chains, significantly reducing the attack surface and development costs.
On the user experience front, transactions appear very fast and secure, as they leverage a state-of-the-art network.
Zetachain is currently in testnet but has announced that it will enter the mainnet probably in Q4 2023, launching its ZETA utility token in parallel.
The latter will be used to pay gas fees, approve transactions, and enable cross-chain transactions.
Speaking of tokens, the crypto project team announced that at the end of the testnet, incentives will be distributed to early adopters who helped test the infrastructure.
As such, many expect an airdrop from Zetachain, especially considering that $27 million in funding has been raised to accelerate developments in the ecosystem.
To date, the network can count a total of more than 1.9 million users on the testnet, 29 thousand dApps deployed and more than 29 million cross-chain transfers made.
Verify your account and get ZETA tokens on the testnet
The first step to be eligible for Zetachain airdrop is to verify your wallet and Twitter account on the project’s official website.
By entering the “leaderboard” section of the Zetachain Labs website you can simply perform these two steps. By doing so you will have officially registered yourself in the leaderboard of addresses competing in the testnet to collect the most points.
In order to then earn points you must first get ZETA test tokens and use them in the Zetachain testnet to be an active user of the platform.
By heading to the “get ZETA” option you will have the opportunity to redeem this type of token on the Goerli Ethereum network and the “Athens-3” network.
The latter represents a new test network, implementing a different set of smart contracts than the network previously developed by Zetachain Labs.
You can request test funds once every 48 hours and only if your Twitter profile has a minimum of 10 followers and has been active for at least 1 month.
Trade ZETA tokens and invite your friends to become eligible for Zetachain airdrop
Immediately after receiving ZETA test tokens, to become eligible for airdrop you will need to start using Zetachain’s platform smart contracts by taking advantage of the “cross chains swap” feature.
The latter allows you to transfer test assets from one cryptographic network to another, testing precisely the interoperability of Zetachain.
For each transfer made you will get points that will be converted into tokens (real this time) at the end of the testnet period.
You are not obliged to use the crypto ZETA during these testnet operations as you can also select gETH and tMATIC.
In general, the more transactions you make, the more points you collect and the greater the allocation for the airdrop.
The only negative note to report is that right now the cross-chain swap feature is disabled due to a developer upgrade, but it will be restored soon.
Finally, the last step to acquire a high score and earn tokens is to invite your friends to participate in the testnet.
In the “Earn ZETA points” section you will find a link to a referral program that will grant you 5,000 ZETA points for each friend who registers on Zetachain and connects their wallet and Twitter account.
Obviously this will give you a huge boost compared to simple asset transfer operations, hence try to attract as many people as possible through your referral link.
As a reminder, participating in the Zetachain airdrop is currently completely free as there is no cost to join the testnet and start collecting points.
Once the chain has landed on the mainnet, if tokens have not yet been distributed to users of the platform, you will have to pay a small amount ($10 or so) to pay gas fees for transactions on the mainnet so that you can increase your earnings once the airdrop is announced.
