Ethereum exchange reserves on Binance have declined to a six-month low even as the asset's price slides. Analysis highlights whether holders are using the current market correction to reposition rather than sell.
Exchange Reserves Fall During Market Correction
According to analysis by Darkfost, the broader altcoin market—measured by Total2—lost more than $110 billion in market capitalization over a three-day period. Ethereum, the largest altcoin by market cap, dropped 11%, shedding more than $38 billion in value.
Despite the downward price action, Binance's ETH reserves moved in the opposite direction. Reserves fell from 3.57 million to 3.47 million ETH during the recent period, following a larger decline from 3.92 million ETH recorded back in August, marking an approximate 11.5% decrease since then. A reduction in exchange reserves is consistent with holders moving coins into self-custody, though reserve figures alone do not explicitly confirm individual investor intentions.
Binance Withdrawals Hit a Record High
Withdrawal activity added further context to the trend. On October 6, Binance recorded more than 320,000 ETH withdrawal transactions in a single day. Even with falling prices, investors continued to move ETH off the platform, reflecting potential long-term holding strategies or plans to utilize assets while waiting for better market conditions.
Price Action and Key Technical Levels
On the price charts, Ethereum has dropped back into the $2,450 to $2,620 zone, which is identified as a key breakout area. Analysts note that reclaiming the $2,600 level could open the possibility of a move toward $3,400. Conversely, losing the current breakout zone highlights $2,100 as the next support level, while a failed breakout risks turning the recent setup into a fakeout.
