Ethereum is testing the $2,800 resistance level once again, as on-chain indicators highlight heightened activity among large holders. While ETH has repeatedly struggled to turn the $2,800 threshold into support, recent data reveals significant movements in whale transactions, older coins, and exchange-held supplies.
Whale Transactions and Dormant Coins Surge
Large transaction counts have recorded sharp spikes as Ethereum moved toward the $2,800 region, focusing attention on transactions exceeding $100,000. Accompanying this is a rise in the Age Consumed metric, indicating that previously dormant coins have started changing addresses amid the price recovery.
Wallet activity also points to notable accumulation instances. An ICO-era wallet acquired 8,492.8 ETH for approximately $23.7 million near $2,794, while another whale accumulated 1,486 ETH for about $4 million around the $2,710 mark.
Exchange Supply Declines Despite Greater Activity
Overall ETH supply on exchanges has continued to trend lower over the broader period. Tracked whales withdrew approximately $3.20 billion from exchanges and deposited $1.34 billion over the 30-day period leading up to October 1, resulting in a net outflow of $1.86 billion. Meanwhile, the 90-day Mean Dollar Invested Age declined through September before stabilizing, reflecting increased movement among older invested capital during the recovery.
Profitability and Market Sentiment
The 30-day MVRV ratio has recovered as prices approached $2,800, placing recent holders deeper into unrealized profit. However, weighted social sentiment has weakened following several unsuccessful breakout attempts, creating a dynamic where holder profitability rises while speculative demand cools.
Price Levels to Watch
Trading near $2,675, Ethereum continues to face the $2,750–$2,800 resistance cluster after previously reclaiming the $2,000 region and pushing past $2,400–$2,500. A decisive daily close above $2,800 could open the path toward $3,000. On the downside, initial support rests at $2,600–$2,650, with a break below that zone exposing the $2,400–$2,450 area.
Overall on-chain data currently points more toward accumulation than a widespread whale exit, though absorption of supply around $2,800 remains necessary to confirm a sustained breakout.
