A significant Ethereum transaction recently moved 23,528 ETH from Coinbase Institutional to an unknown wallet, valued at approximately $57.88 million. The receiving address remains unidentified, leaving the transaction's purpose unclear. This movement comes alongside a reported $69.68 million ETH sale by BlackRock, signaling contrasting institutional activity in the market.
Ethereum's exchange outflows have intensified, with three consecutive weeks of net outflows recorded and the latest weekly reading approaching negative $1.5 billion. If outflows persist through the weekly close on October 19, Ethereum will complete its fourth consecutive week of withdrawals from trading platforms. These sustained withdrawals have reduced the amount of ETH readily available for selling on exchanges.
Despite reduced exchange supply, the outflows have not corresponded with stronger prices or guaranteed a recovery. Ethereum's weak price performance contrasts with the withdrawal trend, indicating a divergence between exchange activity and market direction.
Derivatives positioning reveals a more optimistic outlook. According to Coinglass, ETH's OI-Weighted Funding Rate remains positive at 0.0037%, reflecting continued demand for long exposure. On Binance, top trader accounts show 69.78% holding long positions compared to 30.22% holding short positions, resulting in a Long/Short Ratio of 2.31. However, this concentrated bullish positioning increases exposure to potential liquidations should ETH decline further.
On the technical front, ETH trades near $2,429 after correcting from the $2,800 resistance area. The Parabolic SAR indicator remains above ETH at $2,638.98, validating a bearish trend. The MACD indicator fell to negative 41.36 below its Signal line, producing a negative histogram that confirms bearish pressure dominating the market. The $2,400 support level is considered crucial, with a breakdown potentially exposing ETH to further corrections.
