The Ethereum Foundation has issued a call for abstracts on privacy-preserving technologies for the upcoming Workshop on Privacy-Preserving Technologies (WPPT) 2026, scheduled to take place in Hong Kong.
WPPT is a specialized academic gathering focused on the intersection of cryptography, blockchain, and data privacy. The foundation's involvement aligns with its recent organizational restructuring, which places renewed emphasis on protocol resilience, zero-knowledge proofs, and ecosystem tooling.
Strategic Focus on Privacy
Zero-knowledge proofs allow one party to prove the truth of a statement without revealing the underlying data. As part of its broader privacy initiatives, the foundation's Institutional Privacy Task Force is actively working to enhance privacy features and participate in discussions surrounding future Ethereum upgrades. In addition to sponsoring WPPT 2026, the organization is also a sponsor of the Asiacrypt 2026 cryptography event.
Engagement in Hong Kong
Hong Kong has served as a frequent venue and focus for the foundation's support. In Q2 2026, the organization allocated funding to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s Research Centre for Blockchain Technology to support scholarships and events. The foundation has also organized privacy-themed panels at Ethereum Hong Kong Meetups alongside Consensus 2026.
Because standard Ethereum transactions are visible on-chain, user privacy remains a key challenge. The foundation's investment in academic research and targeted workshops indicates an ongoing effort to address these limitations through cryptographic engineering.
