Ethereum (ETH) surged to $2,667 following the release of U.S. CPI data, which showed headline inflation at 3.4% year over year and core CPI at 2.4%. The move represented a significant climb from approximately $2,433, prompting renewed focus on resistance levels between $2,700 and $2,800.
Large-holder activity accelerated during the advance, with transactions exceeding $1 million rising nearly 14%. The surge also triggered approximately $250 million in liquidated ETH shorts, contributing to the momentum.
Key Support and Resistance Levels
The $2,500 area now serves as the critical near-term support level. Holding above this price would preserve the recovery structure, while a decline back into the previous consolidation range would weaken the breakout thesis. The $2,700–$2,800 region represents the next major supply zone, with a decisive move through it potentially opening the path toward $3,000.
Assessing Breakout Quality
Analysts emphasized that the sustainability of Ethereum's advance depends on whether elevated whale activity persists beyond the CPI-driven volatility. Continued participation from large wallets would signal genuine demand supporting the breakout, whereas a quick reversal could indicate the move was driven primarily by short covering rather than fresh buying pressure.
Institutional flows remain an additional variable as ETH approaches heavier resistance. A consolidation period following the initial surge could be constructive if buyers continue defending the breakout structure.
