Ethereum's Stablecoin Liquidity Shifts as Network Activity Climbs

Ethereum maintains a substantial position in the stablecoin market, accounting for 50% of the $300 billion total stablecoin liquidity on Layer 1 networks, according to DeFiLlama data. This deep liquidity base positions the network as a potential conduit for capital rotation into risk assets should market conditions turn favorable.

Network activity on Ethereum has accelerated significantly. According to Token Terminal, the network processed over 203 million transactions in Q2, representing a 68.4% increase from the same period in 2025. ETH has gained 52% through Q3 among large-cap cryptocurrencies.

The stablecoin market shows signs of recovery after a difficult stretch. After three consecutive months of net outflows, the stablecoin market cap turned positive in August and has remained in positive territory through September, suggesting renewed liquidity conditions.

Stablecoin Composition Shifting

Ethereum's stablecoin landscape is undergoing a structural rebalancing. USDT currently holds 49.6% of stablecoin supply on the network, while USDC accounts for 31.8%. However, the gap between them has narrowed substantially—from 34.2 percentage points in November 2024 to 17.8 percentage points currently.

This shift reflects different growth trajectories rather than a major exodus. Since November 2024, USDT supply grew 22% while USDC supply increased 83%. In 2026, both saw declines, though USDT declined more sharply at 15.5% compared to USDC's 2.9% reduction.

Implications for Capital Flow

The more balanced stablecoin composition reduces Ethereum's reliance on any single issuer for liquidity. Combined with demonstrated network strength, renewed stablecoin supply growth could create conditions for capital rotation into ETH and related assets.
