Ethereum reached approximately $2,750, marking a nine-month high, as the cryptocurrency market gained momentum over the past 24 hours. Bitcoin climbed past $85,000 for the first time since January, contributing to broader market strength despite recent headwinds including the CLARITY Act failure, rising U.S. interest rates, and escalating geopolitical tensions.
The surge has prompted conflicting assessments among analysts about Ethereum's near-term direction. Some market participants view the rally as potentially sustainable, pointing to increased whale activity, rising non-empty wallet counts at 207.17 million, and continued institutional interest through spot Ethereum ETFs. A notable whale transaction involved selling 1,107 Bitcoin and purchasing 34,422 ETH, which was subsequently staked.
However, other analysts have expressed caution. X user DANNY characterized the current setup as "a huge trap," arguing that sentiment could quickly reverse if Ethereum reaches $2,670, leading investors to project further gains to $4,000 and $5,000 before a sharp decline. This analyst expects potential downside toward $1,800, followed by $1,500.
X user Midas similarly described a "huge bearish setup," forecasting a short-term retest of the $1,700–$1,800 range with potential extension toward $1,400–$1,500 if key liquidity levels are broken. Analyst Ted predicted a potential correction once Ethereum approaches the $2,900–$3,000 area.
Despite the differing outlooks, bullish factors remain in play. Staking activity continues to support long-term Ethereum holdings, and institutional capital flows into spot ETFs have provided meaningful support in recent months.
