Fairshake, a super PAC funded by the cryptocurrency industry, has launched a $30 million advertising campaign against former Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown. The push follows the Senate's failure to advance the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act on September 15, when a procedural vote finished 49-50, well short of the 60 votes needed.
Brown, a Democrat, is seeking to reclaim the Senate seat he lost in 2024. He will challenge Republican Senator Jon Husted in what is considered one of the top contests for control of Congress this year.
Industry Response and Spending
Fairshake indicated that additional spending in House and Senate races will follow, with support directed toward candidates from both parties, though general election spending this year is expected to heavily favor Republicans. The super PAC and two affiliated groups hold a combined war chest of $120.4 million according to federal filings, with more than $68 million already spent on congressional primaries this cycle.
Brown has been a previous target of Fairshake's spending. The former top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee attracted $41 million in advertising spending from the super PAC during the 2024 election cycle, which he lost to a Republican opponent.
Market Indicators
The campaign launches as prediction markets show movement against Republican gains nationally. Polymarket traders currently price Brown at 61% on the US market compared to 40% for Husted, while the global book shows tighter odds at 55% to 46%.
