Market sentiment around XRP has shifted as expectations for a Federal Reserve rate hike have intensified. Following recent hawkish signals from Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh and a strong US jobs report, prediction markets show over 50% odds for a rate increase at the next FOMC meeting scheduled for September 15-16.
XRP experienced an immediate reaction to these developments on Friday, dropping from $1.45 to below $1.40 after the jobs data was released, mirroring a broader sell-off in risk assets that saw Bitcoin fall $3,000 over the same period.
Potential Price Impact
Analysis suggests XRP would react more sharply to a Fed rate hike than Bitcoin. An initial 25 basis point increase on September 16 could trigger a 4%-8% decline from current levels, potentially pushing the price below $1.30. Continued weakness could test support at $1.20, with further deterioration possibly driving prices toward $1.05-$1.15 if the Fed signals an even more hawkish stance.
The risk intensifies if the CLARITY Act, which has faced recent delays and scheduling uncertainty, fails to progress as hoped. The legislation had been expected to provide some support for XRP, but its September vote is no longer guaranteed.
Potential Upside Scenarios
Spot XRP ETF inflows have remained relatively resilient during recent market volatility and could act as a stabilizing force. If the Fed signals no immediate follow-up hike after a September increase, combined with sustained ETF demand, XRP could recover to test resistance at $1.50-$1.60.
However, more severe scenarios remain possible. A 50 basis point hike combined with additional hawkish guidance could push XRP toward and potentially below $1.00.
