Filecoin [FIL] declined 8.95% over the past 24 hours, accompanied by a 27.3% drop in daily trading volume and a 9.8% decline in open interest. The combination of price and open interest losses has signaled short-term pessimism among traders.
The bearish pressure comes as the network prepares for a significant upgrade. The Filecoin Solstice upgrade (FIP118) is scheduled to launch on October 19, redirecting a larger share of block rewards to services that attract paying customers to the network while reducing the share allocated to consensus-only mining. Any unearned service share will be burned.
Supply dynamics have also shifted. Genesis vesting ended on October 15, reducing FIL emissions by 75%. Reduced token supply is expected to increase scarcity over the longer term.
Filecoin has retreated 17.18% from its October 11 local high of $1.276 but remains above key support levels at $0.95 and $0.80. Technical indicators show mixed signals: the RSI and MACD have retreated toward neutral levels indicating short-term weakness, while the On-Balance Volume indicator remains in an uptrend that began in September.
On the 4-hour timeframe, the swing structure remains bullish, with a session close below $0.985 needed to shift momentum toward sellers. The daily structure continues to favor bulls. Analysts note that the $1 psychological level appears likely to hold as support, particularly if Bitcoin maintains resilience above the $80,000 mark.
