Two Florida caregivers have been charged with felony offenses after more than $361,000 was allegedly taken from an elderly assisted living resident and her deceased husband, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Reinier Reinoso, 42, and Suyeng Daniels-Lopez, 45, are accused of using the deceased resident's credit card and draining the couple's bank accounts to cover unauthorized charges.
The case began when Imran Din, owner of A&Z Jewelers, flagged the pair for spending more than $40,000 and returning for additional purchases without identification. The credit card belonged to a Sarasota man who died in March.
Daniels-Lopez was assigned as the couple's caregiver from December 2025 until her termination in June. Between June 2nd and August 25th, the card was used in more than 550 transactions totaling $240,272.85. Bank records showed 21 payments from the victims' accounts totaling $361,938.23 covering this activity.
Each defendant is charged with exploitation of an elderly person, grand theft from a person 65 or older, and criminal use of personally identifiable information.
"Our elderly residents deserve to feel safe, especially when placing their trust in those responsible for their care," said Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman. "Taking advantage of that trust for personal financial gain is unacceptable."
