A 31-year-old Miami woman has been arrested in Florida following allegations that she posed as a bank representative to scam a senior citizen. Moniquie Love Turnbull was taken into custody during a traffic stop on Monday near Interstate 95 by deputies from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
According to investigators, Turnbull allegedly visited an elderly resident's home and claimed to work for the victim's bank. She falsely stated that the victim's bank account had been compromised and attempted to collect a debit or credit card under the guise of disposing of it. The victim grew suspicious and contacted law enforcement.
During the investigation, deputies received a second report identifying Turnbull as a suspect in a similar case. Authorities intercepted her vehicle before she could leave Martin County, arresting her in an operation captured on bodycam video.
Turnbull faces multiple felony charges, including a scheme to defraud, the use of a two-way communication device, and the fraudulent use of a credit or debit card without consent involving a victim aged 60 or older.
Following her transport to the jail, authorities discovered $3,200 in cash concealed inside Turnbull's body. The sheriff’s office stated that while the exact origin of the money remains under investigation, the cash has been secured in evidence. Consequently, Turnbull faces an additional charge of introducing contraband into a prison. Her bond has been set at $500,000.
